BonaFide Therapy Dog Preparatory Class Participating in animal-assisted activities and animal-assisted therapy is a great way for you and your dog to help others in need throughout the community. Therapy dogs bring joy to the elderly, comfort to domestic violence victims, unconditional approval to children learning to read and more. This class will focus specifically on preparing you and your dog for registration as a Pet Partner team through the Delta Society. We will expose you and your dog to a variety of medical equipment, therapy simulations, etc. to prepare you for the testing process. Class length: 6 weeks Class size limit: 6 Class duration: 45 minutes Prerequisites In addition to items listed below, students must also show proof of earning a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) award or have permission of the instructor to enroll. Handler must have successfully completed the Delta Society Team Training Course A dog at least 1 year old Dog should enjoy interacting with people Dog should have passed the Canine Good Citizen testing (or be allowed into the class by permission of the instructor. A positive attitude A sense of humor Current vaccination records (including rabies for all dogs 28 weeks and older, parvo, canine distemper, canine hapatitis, and parainfluenza) Handler must be an adult (18 yrs or older) unless prior permission is given by the instructor or the class is designated as a kid's class.
